Qualitative research is one of the research methods that can be considered an advantage alongside quantitative research. However, many of us do not fully understand how to conduct qualitative research and the methods involved. This guest lecture aims to provide knowledge about qualitative research, featuring Dr. dr. Tita Hariyanti, M.Kes as the speaker.
The event took place on Friday, June 5th, 2024, in the Meeting Room of the Medical Rehabilitation Installation, 3rd Floor, Management and Medical Rehabilitation Building, dr. Saiful Anwar Regional General Hospital, Malang.

Writing is an essential habit that cannot be separated from the medical profession, including writing, conducting research, and publishing scientific work. However, many of us still struggle to find motivation or method to start writing and conducting research. Therefore, this event aims to enhance the desire and motivation to write and conduct research, ultimately leading to scientific publication. The speaker for this event is Prof. DR. Dr. Budi Wiweko, Sp.OG, FER, MPH, Int.Aff.RANZCOG, FICRM.

- “Understanding Renal Physiology” Prof. Dr. Cheng Hwee Ming, November 15 2019
The guest lecture entitled “Understanding Renal Physiology” by Prof. Dr. Cheng Hwee Ming was held on November 15, 2019, at the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Specialist Education Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Brawijaya University (KFR FK UB). During this scientific session, Prof. Cheng Hwee Ming—a physiology expert from the University of Malaya—discussed in-depth concepts of renal physiology, ranging from the filtration mechanism of the nephron to the regulation of fluid and electrolyte balance in the body. The event aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of kidney function in the context of medical rehabilitation and promote the integration of basic science with clinical practice. Through interactive discussions, participants gained new insights to support evidence-based approaches in managing patients with nephrological disorders or systemic complications affecting physical function.
- “Systematic review Article for Health”, January 31, 2020
A scientific event entitled “Systematic Review Article for Health” was held on January 31, 2020, by the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Specialist Education Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Brawijaya University (KFR FK UB). The event aimed to enhance participants’ ability to write and analyze systematic review articles as a basis for evidence-based decision-making in clinical practice. Through this session, participants were introduced to the main steps of systematic review, from formulating research questions, conducting structured literature searches, assessing study quality, to synthesizing data. This activity is part of the program’s efforts to strengthen the academic and research competencies of medical specialists in the field of medical rehabilitation.

The Guest Lecture event from NTUH–Yunlin Branch (National Taiwan University Hospital) was held in 2021 by the Specialist Education Program in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Faculty of Medicine, Brawijaya University (KFR FK UB). During this event, speakers from NTUH–Yunlin Branch shared their experiences and the latest developments in the field of medical rehabilitation, including the application of modern technology and a multidisciplinary approach to patient recovery. This guest lecture strengthened the international academic network between FK UB and NTUH and provided participants with global insights into evidence-based rehabilitation practices and healthcare service innovations.
- Indonesian Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, FKUB and FK UNAIR, April 21-22, 2021 and May 22-23, 2021
The scientific event “Indonesian Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation” held on April 21–22, 2021, and May 22–23, 2021, was a collaboration between the Specialist Education Program in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the Faculty of Medicine, Brawijaya University (KFR FK UB), and the Faculty of Medicine, Airlangga University (FK UNAIR). The event featured various lectures, discussions, and exchanges of experiences regarding the development of medical science and rehabilitation practices in Indonesia. Topics covered include the management of physical function disorders, evidence-based rehabilitation, and the integration of multidisciplinary services. The event aims to strengthen networks among medical education institutions, broaden participants’ perspectives, and improve the quality of rehabilitation services at the national level.

The NTUH Guest Lecture was held on November 3, 2022, by the Specialist Education Study Program in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Faculty of Medicine, Brawijaya University (KFR FK UB) in collaboration with National Taiwan University Hospital (NTUH). The guest lecture featured experts from NTUH who discussed innovations and the latest developments in the field of medical rehabilitation, including the application of modern rehabilitation technology and patient management using a multidisciplinary approach. Through this activity, participants gained international insights that enriched their academic and clinical competencies and strengthened educational and research collaboration between FK UB and NTUH.
- Workshop Perineural Injection Therapy Lyftogt 2022
The Lyftogt 2022 Perineural Injection Therapy Workshop was organized by the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Specialist Education Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Brawijaya University (KFR FK UB) as part of the clinical skills development of participants. This workshop discusses the perineural injection therapy technique developed by Dr. John Lyftogt, which is used to manage neuropathic pain and musculoskeletal disorders through the injection of glucose solution around peripheral nerves. Participants received theoretical instruction accompanied by practical demonstrations, enabling them to understand the basic principles, indications, procedures, and safety of this method. The activity aimed to enhance evidence-based therapeutic competencies for medical rehabilitation specialists.

The PM&R Guest Lecture was held on May 19, 2023, by the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Specialist Education Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Brawijaya University (KFR FK UB). In this guest lecture, experts in the field of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation presented material on the latest developments in the management of rehabilitation patients, including holistic approaches, technology integration, and multidisciplinary strategies for restoring physical function. This activity provided participants with new insights into evidence-based rehabilitation practices and strengthened their clinical competencies in treating various musculoskeletal and neurological conditions.

The scientific event “All About Scoliosis A to Z” was held on September 1, 2023, by the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Specialist Education Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Brawijaya University (KFR FK UB). The event comprehensively discussed scoliosis, covering aspects such as anatomy and pathophysiology, early detection methods, assessment of curvature severity, and conservative and surgical treatment options. Through lectures and interactive discussions, participants gained an in-depth understanding of evidence-based scoliosis management, including the role of medical rehabilitation in optimizing patient function and quality of life.

This event focused on the management of musculoskeletal pain through a comprehensive and evidence-based medical rehabilitation approach. The scientific event “Update on Diagnosis and Management of Scoliosis” was held on July 13, 2024, by the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Specialist Education Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Brawijaya University (KFR FK UB). This event aimed to update participants’ knowledge on the diagnosis and management of scoliosis in line with the latest developments. The topics covered included clinical and radiological approaches in evaluating scoliosis, indications for conservative and surgical therapy, and the role of medical rehabilitation in restoring patient function. Through this activity, participants are expected to be able to apply comprehensive, evidence-based principles of scoliosis management that are oriented toward improving patients’ quality of life.

The “Increase Publication and Boost Motivation for Academic Writing” event was held on July 31, 2024, by the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Specialist Education Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Brawijaya University (KFR FK UB). This event was designed to encourage increased scientific publication productivity and motivate participants to develop academic writing skills. The material covered effective strategies for writing research articles, selecting the right journal, constructive peer review techniques, and tips for maintaining consistency in writing amid clinical demands. This activity is expected to strengthen the culture of research and publication within the study program, while also increasing the scientific contribution of medical rehabilitation specialists.

The NTUH–YL Visiting Lecture by Hsin-Shui Chen, M.D., Ph.D. was held on October 24, 2024, at the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Specialist Education Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Brawijaya University (KFR FK UB), in collaboration with National Taiwan University Hospital–Yunlin Branch. During this visiting lecture, Dr. Hsin-Shui Chen shared his knowledge and experience regarding the latest developments in medical rehabilitation, including the integration of modern technology and evidence-based approaches in patient care. This activity strengthened the program’s international network while expanding the clinical and academic knowledge of participants to improve the quality of rehabilitation services in Indonesia.

The 3-in-1 Visiting Professor and Practicing Lecturer Program with Prof. Hideki Hida from Nagoya City University, Japan, was held on May 30, 2025, by the Specialist Education Program in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Faculty of Medicine, Brawijaya University (KFR FK UB). During this event, Prof. Hida delivered a lecture and discussion session on rehabilitation therapy innovations based on the latest research in Japan, including integrative approaches to functional recovery and improving patients’ quality of life. This program aims to strengthen international academic collaboration, improve participants’ clinical and research competencies, and support the internationalization of education within KFR FK UB.

Guest Lecture with Dr. Bayu Santoso, Sp.KFR., N.M(K) with the theme “From Fundamentals to Board Exam Preparation: A Comprehensive Lecture for PM&R Residents” was held on July 5–6, 2025, by the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Specialist Education Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Brawijaya University (KFR FK UB). In this event, dr. Bayu Santoso provided comprehensive training for residents, covering basic concepts to effective strategies for taking the national KFR exam. Through interactive sessions and case-based explanations, participants received structured guidance to deepen their academic and clinical knowledge in order to achieve optimal competence as medical rehabilitation specialists.
