In 2009, the Medical Rehabilitation Installation and the PM&R Study Program at Faculty of Medicine Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) signed a partnership agreement, which marked the beginning of the PM&R study program at FMUB. In order to submit prospective PM&R FMUB study programs, the following steps were taken:
- Submission of a proposal for prospective PM&R FMUB study programs to BAN PT in 2012
- Submission of a visitation for the PM&R Airlangga University study program as a mentor of the study program in 2014
- Submission of a proposal for prospective PM&R FMUB study programs in 2015
- Visitation of the Indonesian Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation College on March 28-29, 2016
- Presentation of prospective PM&R FMUB study programs at KKI on October 25, 2016
- Visitation of KKI in 2017, and visitation of DIKTI in 2017.
Based on the decision of the Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia Number: 112/KPT/I/2018, it was determined to grant permission to open the PM&R FMUB study program, and this is the 18th study program to be established at FMUB.
The Specialist Education Study Program (PS PDS) of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Brawijaya University has been accredited “B” (Good). With this achievement, the study program continues to be committed to producing competent and professional graduates in the field of medical rehabilitation.

This study program also has achieved its previous vision and mission, in line with efforts to improve the quality of medical rehabilitation services in Indonesia.
This study program has five main divisions that cover various aspects of physical medicine and rehabilitation, namely:
- Musculoskeletal Division: which focuses on handling muscle, bone, and joint disorders.
- Pediatric Division: which handles the rehabilitation of children with various medical conditions that affect their growth and development and motor function.
- Neuromuscular Division: which plays a role in the recovery of patients with nerve and muscle disorders.
- Geriatric Division: which focuses on the rehabilitation of the elderly to improve their quality of life.
- Cardiorespiratory Division: which handles the recovery of patients with heart and lung disorders.
With a strong academic structure and experienced teaching staff, the Specialist Education Study Program in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation of Brawijaya University continues to innovate in improving the quality of education and health services.
